Gareth Ellis

Gareth is Co-Artistic Director of Feat In Space Theatre Co.

As writer Gareth won the Wal Cherry Award and Malcolm Robertson Prize for his first full length play A View of Concrete, which premiered as a reading at the Vic Arts Centre in 2004 and was later produced by Malthouse Theatre in 2006. It is still a regular on Australian stages, most recently performed at Sydney’s King Street Theatre. Other works include Time With Mrs. Thompson at LA MAMA, The Champion Male with On A Mat Appear, I Am A Pessimist with Real Fiction, the shorts plays The Box, The Casting & Jack Rabbit for Short & Sweet, and The WeWak Mosquito for Infectious. His most notable collaboration is the one woman show The Sound Of Waves developed with Jodie Harris for The University of Melbourne & Cochlear Australia, performed at VCA in 2008, and reworked for an upcoming production at 45 Downstairs in September 2014.

Gareth is a 2002 VCA Drama Graduate and has worked performing and developing work with MTC, Illbijerri, Melbourne Workers Theatre and Arena, among others. Most notable, his role in Hannie Rayson’s Inheritance for MTC/STC, and later for ABC Radio National. Along with regular voiceover work, Gareth has been in numerous short films, pilots and television programs.

For Feat Gareth co-directed and performed in The Dreamer Examines His Pillow by John Patrick Shanley in 2011, and directed his own plays The Piano Thief in 2012 and A Protest in 2013. He has also written many of the plays in Feat Theatre’s public playreading series. Currently in production is his play Receivers which will premiere November 2014 directed by Amanda Falson.
